This month’s challenge is brought to us by Karen of Bake My Day and Zorra of 1x umruehren bitte aka Kochtopf. They have chosen Tuiles from The Chocolate Book by Angélique Schmeink and Nougatine and Chocolate Tuiles from Michel Roux.
I chose to follow a basic recipe. The directions seemed easily doable and not too many ingredients — how fun! I started off by creating butterfly stencils, traced from some rosette irons I have. I used cardboard and carefully cut it out. So far so good. I made about eight butterflies and some dough leftover to make a huge circle. Instead of using a rolling pin to shape the Tuiles, I used some flower formers (something I’ve had from my cake decorating classes).
While baking the Tuiles, I was disappointed that my butterfly forms spread out so much that by the time they were ready to be pulled out of the oven, the forms didn’t look anything like butterflies! None-the-less I served it with some light pudding and my tasters liked it regardless of what it looked like. With some leftover dough, I formed a small cup and placed a dollop of the pudding in it and dusted it with some confectioner’s sugar.
