The month of May is not exactly Pear season in Southern California so when happening upon a bag of beautiful Forelle Pears at a local market, I believed it to be a lucky day!
The Forelle is considered a “snacking pear” and its smaller size makes them just a bit larger than the cute little Seckel pears. They are identifiable from their other pear brothers by the red lenticles/freckles that adorn the skin. In the U.S., the Forelle’s season typically runs between October through March.
The flesh is firm and sweet and when stored in the refrigerator, they retain their freshness much longer than a Bosc (for example).
My next post is savory, an appetizer or party-type dish. Looking forward to sharing it in the next day or so. Have a great week!
